Cheetahs boss Franco Smith is happy with his side’s performance despite losing 20-10 against the Stormers in Bloemfontein.
The victory was the visitor’s first at this venue since 2012.
The yellow card to Springbok lock Lood de Jager did not make matters any easier for the home side, as their lineout turnovers increased.
Lock duo Eben Etzebeth and Pieter-Steph du Toit along with veteran flanker Schalk Burger restricting quality ball for the Cheetahs.
“They have a lot of experience in their side and you could see it in the way they managed the game,” Smith told Business Day Live.
“We got intimidated a bit at the line-out,” said Smith.
“Lood is a Springbok, but people forget he is just 23 years old.
“He played against two very good locks and Schalk Burger at the back of the line-out.”
Smith is optimistic that they are getting with each game. He also eluded to the fact that they are still an experimentative side.
“People will look at the result.”
“For me, it is about showing improvement from one week to the next.
“We created a lot of opportunities and our defence was better.
“It is my experience with new teams you get one thing right, then suddenly, you have to address another.”
